I first heard about this book from Fleace Weaver of Black Girl Travel and Black Weekly. While reading it I could also tell that it heavily influenced Patti Stanger and her book Become Your Own Matchmaker; and if you watch her show Millionaire Matchmaker on Bravo you'll see further evidence of this. I think that is pretty good company, so off I went to read.

Marriage and family therapist Dr. Pat Allen delves into the chemistry of relationships and attraction from a scientific perspective. Through her work in couples counseling and her research on relationships Dr. Allen is able to provide a very involved discussion about what “goes right” in successful relationships and what “goes wrong” in failed relationships, and why. I also appreciated how Dr. Allen outlined the successes and failures of her previous relationships in the introduction before delving into the meat of the book. This made her real and personable to me. She was no longer a psychologist talking at me, but a real person imparting knowledge from experience.
